This is why people don't open your emails
I remember the first time I was confronted with an overworked and overused email list
“No matter what I was sending, people wouldn’t open my emails”
It was a couple of years ago
Now, just by having a glance at the email strategy, I can see why people are not opening/interacting with the emails…
You see, if you have low open rates or people are simply not interacting / buying there is a couple of reasons why…
You are sending Flashy / Spammy emails with no value.
There is a quote that I live by as an email marketer :
“ The real fact of the matter is that nobody reads ads. People read what interests them, and sometimes it’s an ad”
If you are sending fancy-looking emails with flash promos, guess what? People won’t open and read your emails.
Same if there is no value-added in your emails and it’s just a blatant sales pitch.
Now that we got this out of the way… What should you send them?
Things that pique their interest ( obviously )
Success stories
Mistakes they are making
A byproduct of the mistakes they are making = pain of mistakes
The pleasure of fixing the mistake
The story of how you founded your company
2. Your sender reputation sucks (maybe because you send spammy emails)
The best way to boost your email reputation is to rethink your whole email marketing strategy and send your list useful content.
I know, I know.
It’s very unsexy
But it’s the ultimate strategy.
However, if you are seeing a little drop in open rates and want to pump those numbers up, here are a couple of tricks you will find useful
Segment your list on the basis of Engaged and Non-engaged subscribers.
This will help you distinguish between interested and uninterested subscribers.
Send a plain text email to the uninterested subscribers.
Keep those who engaged. Suppress the rest.
2. Send super-targeted emails. Everybody on your mailing list is on a different journey.
Some are ready to buy. Some want to hear more. Some are waiting for the right opportunity.
Your goal is to put the right content in front of the right person.
3. Start sending more plain text emails to people who are getting the Emails on the spam folder.
4. Send an email campaign offering a giveaway of some kind. (product, gift card, etc)
To enter into the giveaway, tell your subscribers all they need to do is reply.
For example, if you are giving away a hoodie, and there are 2 variations to choose from, to enter the contest, all they have to do is reply which variant they want.
When you choose the winner, send another email informing everyone a winner was chosen, and if they don't want to miss the next giveaway opportunity, they need to white list your emails.
I know some of these tricks are very basic but are you doing them right?
